Trimming the Tree

Why is it called "Trimming the Tree"? I suppose if you had a real tree, you might really "trim" it, but for us it means pulling out all the Christmas decorations so that you can have a festive house for a couple of weeks and then have to put them all away again.

Because we were gone to Disneyland for that week, we didn't get around to pulling out the decorations until December 16th. I thought Katya would be very excited about it but she really wasn't. She was excited to see her "sock" (it took me a couple of tries to understand that she was talking about her stocking to hang over the fireplace) and then she was extremely disappointed that it was the "same" as all the other socks (they need to match the decore, don't they?). So, that may have contributed to her lack of interest, along with the fact that Alex put a movie in which was obviously much more entertaining. I tried really hard not to let this bother me because after all - if a kid doesn't want to help decorate why should you have to fight them to do it? Alex had to take Allie home so it was just me and Tony (Tony will be awesome help when it comes time to take down the ornaments!) for a while. Katya did eventually come and help decorate the tree in the living room and thinking back on this makes me feel really bad because I had intended on taking Katya to Hallmark so she could pick out an ornament that was "hers" but never did it. Darn! Where does the time go?

Anyway, the decorations made it up and now, as of the date of this post, they will be coming down in approximately one more week. Oh what fun it is!
