Men and babies

If you want to draw attention at Independence Square in Kiev, Ukraine you only need these three things: one baby, one Bjorn baby carrier, and one man. We walked down to the square to exchange some currency and Alex was carrying baby Tony in the baby carrier on his chest (I should have taken a picture). You wouldn’t believe the looks we got. Apparently it is quite a sight in Ukraine to see a man with a baby. The women all looked at Alex with a smile and an “Oh – how sweet” look, surprised that a man would actually participate in his child’s upbringing. The men looked at Alex like he was a “pathetic, whipped loser”.

There are stores underneath the street. Under one street corner they actually had a small mall, including a food court. They have probably run out of space to build up so they decided to build down? It was pretty cool and it actually serves the purpose of keeping the pedestrians from crossing the streets above, since this would be a very scary thing with all those crazy drivers around.

  1. I remember that look you were talking about with men and babies....We got looks our entire trip when my dad or I carried our kids. During our 3 weeks, I dont think I recalled one baby being carried. However, usually, when we would catch someone staring at us, for carrying our babies, they would usually hurry and look away.
